About BMD

BMD is Australia’s leading integrated engineering, construction and urban development business, with foundations built on the family values that underpin our unique, collaborative approach. Driven by a purpose of powering futures and creating enduring legacies through a commitment to collaboration, BMD is delivering infrastructure solutions that connect and transform communities. With a proud history beginning in 1979, BMD now employs 2,400 people throughout Australia, the Philippines and United Kingdom.

About the Role

Based in our Wentworth Point Office, the Electrical Estimator will be vital to BMD’s continued growth in the renewables and water sectors. You will develop accurate, first-principles estimates for the electrical components of complex infrastructure projects delivered through an integrated civil, structural and electrical construction model. Working with project managers, engineers, procurement specialists, subcontractors and suppliers, you will help BMD develop competitive, commercially robust bids that respond to client requirements and project risks.

This is an opportunity to influence our approach to electrical estimating, strengthen our integrated bid capability and contribute to strategic project pursuits across emerging and established infrastructure markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • develop accurate and detailed first-principles estimates for electrical infrastructure, including labour, materials, equipment, subcontractor costs and overheads
  • review designs, drawings, schematics, specifications and tender documentation to identify electrical scope, interfaces, risks and opportunities
  • prepare material take-offs, scopes of work, supplier enquiries and subcontractor pricing packages
  • collaborate with civil, structural, engineering, delivery and procurement teams to produce coordinated and competitive tenders
  • assess the interfaces between electrical works and associated civil and structural construction activities
  • obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations, negotiate pricing and prepare comparative commercial analyses
  • identify value engineering opportunities, alternative methodologies and cost-effective technical solutions
  • evaluate tender risks and uncertainties, develop mitigation strategies and recommend appropriate contingencies
  • ensure estimates align with client requirements, project specifications, industry standards and the overall delivery methodology
  • maintain accurate estimate records, bid documentation, quotations, correspondence and internal approval information
  • monitor industry developments, technologies and estimating practices relevant to electrical systems in renewables, water and wastewater infrastructure.

About You

You will bring:
  • demonstrated electrical estimating experience gained with a Tier 1 or Tier 2 civil contractor delivering electrical elements as part of broader civil and structural project scopes
  • experience preparing first-principles estimates for multidisciplinary infrastructure projects
  • relevant experience in water, wastewater, renewables, energy or other complex infrastructure sectors
  • strong knowledge of electrical systems, components, equipment and construction methodologies
  • the ability to interpret electrical drawings, schematics, specifications and technical documentation
  • an understanding of how electrical works interface with civil, structural, mechanical and process scopes
  • advanced Microsoft Excel capability and experience with estimating software such as Expert Estimation, CATS or comparable platforms
  • sound commercial judgement and experience obtaining, assessing and negotiating supplier and subcontractor pricing
  • proven attention to detail, with the ability to identify scope gaps, tender risks and value engineering opportunities
